The concept
|

Users of petrol stations must still make do with a standard range of ready-made products. Regional Stations aims to bring more variety and, above all, quality to the forecourt shops - by introducing mainly regional produce made using artisanal methods, i.e. with lots of care and attention.
Some of the starting points are:
- The regional produce must boast distinctive flavour and quality. In addition, the product must be made with pride and care: it must be rooted in local tradition and values.
- Contact must be possible with the local agricultural community (without excluding products from other regions in the Netherlands).
- The aim is to bring large groups of people into contact with the regional produce. The busy ‘Randstad’ conurbation is probably the best place to launch the Regional Stations concept.
From farmyard to forecourt
The LEI Agriculture & Economics Institute is exploring the practical feasibility and implementation of Regional Stations. This exploratory study should result in a formula involving a short chain between the artisanal producers and the petrol stations. In other words: from farmyard to forecourt.
The Regional Stations concept is confined to locations frequented by large numbers of people: petrol stations on busy roads. The main reason for this is that a nationwide roll-out in the Netherlands is not logistically viable.
