In 2007, we will develop the concept further and select the plants and technology required for a marketable product. It might also be possible to build a prototype climate control system in a number of homes, or in a school. There is no meaning-of-life concept available yet, but the project ‘Working in glasshouses’ might give promising leads in this respect. We hope to develop these further in 2007.
A study was launched in 2006 into the influence of plants on the indoor climate in schools, homes, care homes and offices. Evaporated water makes the indoor environment more pleasant (less dry) in winter. On the other hand, too much humidity is unpleasant in summer, when condensation is necessary to cool the air, just as it is done in the energy-producing glasshouse. The result could be a completely new climate control concept for buildings; a concept that generates warmth and coolness. This exploratory study is also linked with the Healthy Communities theme.
