The concept
|
|
All the experts agree that (un)healthiness is a phenomenon that is almost always influenced by a variety of factors acting simultaneously. It’s not just a question of nutrition, nor simply the eating habits, not just a question of exercise, doesn’t exclusively depend on the individual’s socio-economic status, doesn’t only depend on the quality of the air we breathe, etc.
The real task is to search for a solution leading to renewal in the day-to-day environment in which people live. The neighbourhood as social building stone of our cities and villages is attracting growing interest in the world of healthcare. This concept aims at achieving surprising combinations between agricultural, green and other domains that act upon how health is experienced in the everyday lives of people in the neighbourhood. It will look not only at the physical living environment (the design of neighbourhoods, accessibility, space for moving around etc.) but also at the virtual living environment (the way in which the inhabitants have access to and behave towards health-related information and media).
We regard Healthy Neighbourhood as one of the key projects under this theme, since it offers so many opportunities for integrating all kinds of social issues, such as the future of health care, the multicultural society and the day-to-day experience of health by the individual citizen.
This is a beginning concept.
